12 Burnt Out Exit Signs Out of 20! Do You Have a Better Record than that?

Posted on 05. Jan, 2009 by admin in Exit Sign Maintenance

Listen to this true story:

“… I visited a friend over the weekend, and for fun, we took a walk around his apartment building. I wanted to check out the exit signs.

You won’t believe what we found.

12 exit signs weren’t functioning (off — no illumination) out of 20 counted. And these were hard wired units. To be fair maybe 3 or 4 of the 12 exit signs were partially lit or the light was so dull we couldn’t tell if they were on unless we stood right underneath it (not good in an emergency).

In any case, 12 exit signs out of 20 were not functioning properly. And we had another floor left to count but decided to head to the building manager and notify him.

And you won’t believe this either.

He was part confused and part upset at the news.

Confused, it turns out, because he didn’t think it was a big deal, and would get around to it. Upset because he this meant more work…”

Dear reader, I know you’re facilities manager wouldn’t let your buildings emergency exti signs ever reach a 12 out 20 ratio. You, and those you employ, are much more professional than this.

But let’s not point fingers here.

Let’s talk about something more constructive; the real reason something like this happens.

As appalling and dangerous this situation is; no matter the amount of liability this building is at risk for; and never mind the hefty government fines they could face…

The reason something like this ever happens, to anyone at any time, is human error!

What’s wonderful about Glo Brite Eco Exit signs (in addition to the fact they’re non-toxic, non-radioactive, and save you a lot of money in electric bills), is that they’re practically free from human error.

“Install it and forget it”.

They do not need electric wires and therefore no electric wires to maintain. They do not use light or LED bulbs and therefore there are none to replace. The signs have no internal parts and so there is no chance the sign needs repairs for mechanical or electrical failure.

Avoiding human error is truly the importance and benefit of owning Glo Brite Eco Exit signs.

To be honest though, there is some suggested maintenance — wipe the dust off once in a while.

Other than that, install Glo Brite Eco Exit signs (much easier than traditional emergency exit signs) in your building or retrofit. Follow the local laws and ordinances as to where they belong in your building and you can enjoy “install it and forget it” emergency signs.

12 burnt out signs out of 20… this building’s maintenance probably hasn’t paid attention for months, maybe for years. A Glo Brite exit sign is trouble free for 25 plus years!
